How first aid requirements are determined
Workforce size
Larger workplaces generally need more trained people available.
Location coverage
Spread-out workplaces may need trained people at each location, floor, building or mobile team.
Risk level
Higher-risk and remote high-risk work use tighter first aider ratios.
Shift coverage
First aid coverage should match each shift, not only normal office hours.
Backup coverage
Plan extra trained people so holidays, illness and roster changes do not leave a gap.
Special hazards
Hazards such as machinery, chemicals or remote work affect planning.
